The commercial dayboat season (starting April 1st) creeps up upon us in Point Judith, Rhode Island like jaws on a bathing beauty.
Gabe the Fish Babe Quality Seafood is gearing up for live-fish madness. All the crusty crabs down here (aka the super beloved small time fishermen of this amazing port!) are fixing up and their fishing gear, their gill nets, their fish traps and their wet storage systems. Within the next couple of weeks the live fish industry here will be flowing like boxed wine at a sorority house.
Already we have seen some incredible live creatures pulled from these waters. Take a gander at these live urchins and live snails from the F/V Tiger Jo:
If that doesn’t put a skip in your step, check out these white bellied fluke from the F/V Tradition:
What species will show up first in the traps? Maybe tautog, maybe black sea bass:
Feel like taking a walk on the wild side? What about sea robin sashimi?
Hey, it’s gonna happen. Get ready to open your mind and your mouth ’cause this is the year of the fish. Don’t discriminate! Eat whatever is fresh and local. Eat underutilized species and save the fishermen.
